There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is prohibited. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, features 150 slots and 60 tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that highlights numerous luxuries accompanying the casino, which provides ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
