There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is banned. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel building that contains many conveniences in addition to the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 tables.
